The 2025 Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) officially opened on September 1, 2025, with a vibrant kick‑off ceremony at The Gallery, Rizal Park, Luneta during the Stop and Salute Flag Raising Ceremony. The event brought together government leaders, private sector advocates, and maritime stakeholders in a united call to honor and protect the Philippines’ identity as a proud maritime and archipelagic nation.
The ceremony was graced by Secretary Andres Castor Centino, Presidential Assistant for Maritime Concerns, as guest speaker. In his address, Secretary Centino emphasized the importance of maritime awareness in safeguarding national sovereignty, promoting sustainable use of marine resources, and preserving the country’s seafaring heritage for future generations.
Also present were representatives from the Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Center Incorporated, led by its Chairman Vice Admiral Joseph M. Coyme, PCG (Ret), whose leadership continues to inspire collaborative maritime initiatives. The gathering likewise welcomed former Undersecretary Arturo Valdez, renowned for leading the historic Balangay Expedition, which rekindled national pride in the Philippines’ ancient seafaring traditions.
The celebration highlighted the value of cooperation between government agencies, civic organizations, and private advocates in advancing maritime consciousness. As the month‑long observance unfolds, the call remains clear — to work together in protecting the waters that connect and sustain the nation’s more than 7,000 islands.
